The Iceman started martial arts in karate, as a child, eventually earning a black belt. He wrestled at Santa Barbara's San Marcos High School for four years, becoming Team Captain (he also captained the football team). Chuck then came to Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo where he was a four-year starter in their Division 1 Wrestling program, earning a California State Championship in Freestyle.
After graduating with a BA in Business/Accounting, The Iceman's competitive desire remained. It was then he bagan to hone the skills he is perhaps most highly regarded for - his standup striking.
Under the tutelage of the legendary John Hackleman, at the The Pit in Arroyo Grande, California, Chuck earned a record of 20-2 with 16 kayos, and heavyweight titles in the USMPA and the WKA, and two national kickboxing belts.
After viewing UFC I, Chuck knew where his destiny lay. Five years later, before his UFC debut, he began to study B JJ with John Lewis of the J-Sect Brazilian Ju-jitsu Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Based upon Chuck's performance in mixed martial arts, he was named No Holds Barred Co-Competitor of the Year for 2001 by Black Belt Magazine, an award he shared with UFC Champion Tito Ortiz, who he went on to defeat in UFC 47.
Chuck's first film appearance as a MMA fighter was in Universal Motion Pictures "How High" in 2001. His first film appearance was in the movie "The Postman Always Rings Twice" with Jack Nicholson. Chuck also be appeared in the Warner Brothers movie featuring Jet Li, "Cradle to the Grave".
He owns and operates San Luis Obispo (SLO) Kickboxing School, with his partner, Scott Adams.
